Risk Assessment
As with any investigation, it was very important to make sure that the experiment was safe to conduct at home, without teacher supervision. To ensure that the experiment was not dangerous, the investigation abided by certain guidelines, set by the criteria. A risk assessment was also emailed to the teacher, before the investigation was confirmed upon.
Although the experiment was relatively safe, and did not have many obvious hazards, it is still important to identify any possible hidden dangers of the experiment, to prevent self-injury or harm to others.
As is standard in most experiments, common sense and caution needed to be taken, when proceeding with the investigation. It was important to avoid running around the scene of the experiment, as any accidental spills of water, could lead to slipping, tripping and quite possibly, very serious injuries.
Because glasses were used, it was also very important to handle the glasses with caution, as dropping of the glasses could result in shattering of glass, and sharp, shattered pieces of glasses could cause cuts on the skin.
Also, the filling of glasses with water, had to be done carefully, so that excess water did not overflow, and create a slippery hazard on the floor, which could result in very serious injuries as mentioned before.
